STILL THOUGHTS (1-25)

By Dharma Master Shi Zheng-Yan

  1. Everyday is a new beginning in life. Every moment is a time for self vigilance.
  2. Time will dignify a person's disposition, attain his career accomplishment, and will also accumulate meritorious virtues.
  3. The longevity of a person's life-span is measured by the achievements one has accomplished. Hence, take a challenge with time; never let time idles away aimlessly.
  4. Very often, when people are at ease and at liberty to do anything as they pleased, they are often blindfolded by such privilege and idle away their time ignorantly.
  5. Time is a precious gem to a wise person, but to a fool, it is like a handful of mud, without any significance.
  6. Lord Buddha said: "Life is constrained within one's breathing." "Human Beings" have no control over their own life, nor can they prevent death, and live infinitely. Since life is unpredictable and impermanent, we should greatly cherish our own life; fully utilise it, excel it, so that this transient and precious life can illuminate its authentic, blissful, and graceful radiance, glowing with the true value of life.
  7. Our life-span is brief, that makes it extremely invaluable. Since it is a rare opportunity to come to this world as human beings, we should ask ourselves is we have discharged our utmost capability in life and not merely seeking for longevity.
  8. Be instant in charitable contributions; Be consistent in accumulating meritorious virtues. It is like boiling water, never ever extinguish the fire before the water is boiled, otherwise it will be too bothersome to repeat all over again.
  9. To bestow loving kindness is a blessing. To extinguish affliction signifies wisdom.
  10. Explore the authentic purpose of life with tact and wisdom; Arrange the time schedule in life with enthusiasm and determination.
  11. The greatest deviation that distinguish the sage from the layman is the capability to command a self-control of time and space.
  12. The future is a vain hope, the past is a distracting thought. Uphold our loving kindness at this instant, and be committed to our duties and responsibilities right now.
  13. Be humble in our attribute, be loving and varying in our attitude, that is the way to live in ultimate bliss.
  14. We grow wiser by each experience. Wisdom is enhanced through the interaction with people and affairs. Therefore if we avoid that actuality of life, and dislodge from people and affairs, there is no chance to acquire wisdom.
  15. What is the most valuable thing in life? That is loving kindness. Those who take pleasure in making sacrifices for the sake of others and who are able to bestow loving kindness are the ones who enjoy eternal happiness and lead a purposeful life.
  16. It is always a blessing to bequeath love on others as well as to be showered with love. Those who have the spirit to love others or to be bestowed with love are those who are endowed with bountiful blessings.
  17. Humility signifies merit; Comity depicts virtue.
  18. Regard dispute as a form of education; compliments as vigilance; aversion an opportunity for self-examination, mistake as a kind of experience - whatever criticism is always an invaluable lesson.
  19. When others scold me, misunderstand me, slander me, I should, on the contrary, evolve a sense of gratefulness and appreciate them for giving me the circumstances to dignify my disposition.
  20. A pure and upright state of mind does not worry of others' defamation. As long as we do the right thing with sincerity, regardless of how others may allege, it will on the contrary enhance our moral integrity.
  21. Those who know how to make wise appropriation of their time will surely be able to strive on their aimed destiny.
  22. "Blessing" comes from a charitable mind.
  23. Regardless of how much painstaking effort and labour we have dispensed in life, never retain our thought on past achievements; Regardless of how much we have given to others, we must not ask for favours in return or seek retribution. We can never hold on the past, the future is unpredictable, hence grasp the present moment.
  24. Joyful mood is a meritorious deed that cheers up people around you like the showering of cool spring breeze.
  25. Treat everyone with sincerity, they will certainly appear loveable and friendly.
